Promoting Education
In the information age, the promotion and branding of education, at all levels, assumes a new and greater importance. This was recognized by British Prime Minister Tony Blair in 1999 when he launched the Prime Minister's Initiative, aimed at promoting British education around the world. In the United States, the need for systematic international promotion has been one factor behind the formation of state-level consortia such as California -- ETEC, Study Washington, Study Texas and others like them. As Asia itself and individual countries within the region become more important as study abroad destinations, the need for effective branding and promotion also increases.
